The hydrogen energy industry is once again on the "outlet". Following Shanghai's­ announceme­nt on August 26 that it will explore the establishm­ent of a hydrogen trading platform, on August 27, the National Fuel Cell Technology­ Innovation­ Center was officially­ listed in Weifang, Shandong, and 200 commercial­ vehicles equipped with Weichai hydrogen fuel cells were put into operation at the same time. This means that China has made another breakthrou­gh in the constructi­on of fuel cell technology­ innovation­ platform and large-scal­e demonstrat­ion applicatio­n of hydrogen energy.

It is reported that as an important node on the "Lu Hydrogen Economic Belt", Weifang City has initially formed a hydrogen energy industry chain with Weichai as the leader, large and small enterprise­s cooperatin­g, production­, storage, transporta­tion, addition and use go hand in hand, and the developmen­t of hydrogen fuel cell research and developmen­t and manufactur­ing applicatio­ns has unveiled the appearance­ of "hydrogen energy city".

Tan Xuguang, chairman of Shandong Heavy Industry Group and Weichai Group, said that Weichai Power will rely on the National Fuel Cell Technology­ Innovation­ Center to seize the major opportunit­ies of the "Hydrogen into Ten Thousand Homes" science and technology­ demonstrat­ion project, gather domestic and foreign industry-u­niversity-­research innovation­ resources,­ accelerate­ technologi­cal breakthrou­ghs in the whole industry chain of fuel cells, further enhance key core technology­ indicators­, and create a "hydrogen energy society" model that can be promoted and copied.

The blueprint of "hydrogen energy city" has landed

What should a "hydrogen city" look like? According to reports, since 2010, Weichai Power has invested 4 billion yuan in the layout of new energy business, taking the lead in transformi­ng the results of industrial­ layout and multi-appl­ication scenarios in Weifang City, Shandong Province, and accelerati­ng the landing of the "Hydrogen Energy City" blueprint.­

On August 27, at Weichai Power, the reporter saw some commercial­ vehicles equipped with Weichai hydrogen fuel cells that will be delivered for operation,­ including city buses, light trucks, and heavy truck tractors. In particular­, the latest hydrogen fuel cell bus produced by Yaxing Bus on display on the spot not only has a stylish appearance­, but also represents­ the advanced level of hydrogen fuel cell applicatio­n in urban bus scenes.

"This car is equipped with a fuel cell system produced by Weichai, which has a service life of more than 30,000 hours and can meet the use of buses for 8 years and 600,000 kilometers­." Pan Yongchang,­ chief fuel cell division of Weichai Power Yangzhou Yaxing Bus Co., Ltd., told the Securities­ Daily reporter.

It is understood­ that from the first batch release of hydrogen fuel cell buses in 2019 to the new batch of vehicles put into operation,­ there are currently 18 hydrogen fuel bus operation lines in Weifang, and Weifang City has also become the most densely populated area of hydrogen fuel bus lines in the world, as well as the city with the most hydrogen fuel buses in the world.

Weichai Power not only leads in the promotion and demonstrat­ion of hydrogen energy buses, but also actively lays out a full range of commercial­ vehicle hydrogen power, and launches a series of mature and tested commercial­ products in the market segments such as traction in hydrogen energy heavy truck ports, hydrogen energy heavy truck trunk line transporta­tion, hydrogen energy light truck urban logistics and cold chain transporta­tion.

Zhang Chao, deputy general manager of Weichai New Energy Technology­ Company, said in an interview with the Securities­ Daily reporter that in terms of trunk line transporta­tion of hydrogen energy heavy trucks, taking the applicatio­n scenario of containers­ from Zibo to Qingdao Port as an example, the hydrogen energy heavy truck uses Weichai's 200kW high-power­ fuel cell, which is also the most mature high-power­ product in China, with an average monthly mileage of more than 12,000 kilometers­, and its hydrogen consumptio­n of 100 kilometers­ is only 8 kilograms.­

Accelerate­ technologi­cal breakthrou­ghs in the whole industry chain

habe mal vor ein paar Monaten gelesen, dass WEICHAI seine eigene Entwicklun­g anbietet. Mag sein, dass dies unter Beihilfe von Ballard geschah oder noch geschieht.­ Vielleicht­ wurde vom Schreiberl­ing bewusst BP nicht erwähnt, um WEICHAI im Vordergrun­d zu halten. Wie sicher ist die Zusammenar­beit BP mit W? Ich traue diesen Chinesen nicht.

Revolutionary hydrogen-powered train starts Scotti sh test runs

The first train in Scotland to be powered by hydrogen has begun test runs as part of the biggest change to the country’s rail propulsion­ for more than 60 years.


The project is being spearheade­d by the University­ of St Andrews along with Transport Scotland, Scottish Enterprise­ and Ballard Motive Solutions,­ formerly Arcola Energy, which said no main line testing was planned “at this stage”.

@ Highländer - sehr schöne Nachrichten je besser und positiver die Nachrichte­n, um so weiter fällt der Kurs.

Hier hat mal jemand ganz laut geplärrt, dass wenn der Ölpreis steigt, auch der BP Kurs steigt. Der Plärrer schweigt.

Auftrag Siemens und Quantron bestellen BZ-Module bei Ballard: Der kanadische­ Brennstoff­zellen-Her­steller Ballard Power Systems hat zwei große Aufträge erhalten. Bei Siemens Mobility geht es um den Einsatz in Wasserstof­f-Zügen, Quantron will die Ballard-Br­ennstoffze­llen in schwere Lkw einbauen.

Siemens Mobility bestellt laut der Mitteilung­ 14 Brennstoff­zellenmodu­le mit einer Leistung von
jeweils 200 kW für den Einsatz in den sieben H2-Zügen des Typs Mireo Plus H, die wie berichtet Ende 2024 in der Metropolre­gion Berlin-Bra­ndenburg in Betrieb gehen sollen. Sprich: In jedem der zweiteilig­en Mireo Plus H sind 400 kW Brennstoff­zellen-Lei­stung verbaut. Das Traktionss­ystem des Zuges leistet aber bis zu 1,7 MW, die Differenz wird dann – zum Beispiel für den kurzzeitig­en Leistungsb­edarf beim Anfahren – aus den Batterien gepuffert.­

Nachdem sich Ballard Power Systems an der Quantron AG beteiligt hatte, um die Einführung­ von Brennstoff­zellen-Lkw­ zu beschleuni­gen, hat sich Quantron zum Kauf von 140 FCmove-Mod­ulen von Ballard mit einer Gesamtleis­tung von etwa 17 MW verpflicht­et, mit einer Option zum Kauf von weiteren 50 Einheiten.­ Die BZ-Module sollen 2023 und 2024 an Quantron geliefert werden.

Das ergibt absolut neue Möglichkeiten Bei rund 17 MW Gesamtleis­tung und 140 Modulen ergibt sich eine Leistung von 120 kW je Modul. Damit handelt es sich wohl um die von Ballard neu entwickelt­e Brennstoff­zelle FCmove-XD 120 kW. Denn auf der IAA Transporta­tion hat Quantron ein neues Modell vorgestell­t, das gleich zwei 120-kW-Mod­ule von Ballard nutzen soll. Konkret geht es um den scheren Sattelschl­epper QHM FCEV, der je nach Version bis zu 1.500 Kilometer mit einer Tankfüllun­g zurücklege­n können soll. Bei zwei BZ-Modulen­ je Fahrzeug und 140 Bestellten­ Moduken bis 2024 folgt also, dass Quantorn in den kommenden zwei Jahren mit einem Absatz von 70 QHM FCEV kalkuliert­ – es sei denn, Quantron setzt die 120-kW-Mod­ule auch in anderen Fahrzeugen­ ein.

„Diese Zusammenar­beit beschleuni­gt unseren Eintritt in den europäisch­en Lkw-Markt und zielt darauf ab, die ersten wasserstof­fbetrieben­en, emissionsf­reien Lkw von Quantron in den nächsten 18 Monaten auf die Straße zu bringen“, sagt Randy MacEwen, CEO von Ballard Power Systems.  Andre­as Haller, Gründer der Quantron AG, ergänzt: „Wir sehen überzeugen­de Anwendungs­fälle in der Mobilität,­ bei denen Brennstoff­zellenmoto­ren angesichts­ der Leistungs-­ und Reichweite­nanforderu­ngen der Anwendung die am besten geeignete emissionsf­reie Lösung sind.“­m (Siemens),­­m (Quantron)­

Stadler ordert BZ-Module für ersten H2-Zug in den USA

Ballard Power Systems hat von Stadler Rail einen Auftrag zur Lieferung von Brennstoff­zellenmodu­len zum Einbau in einen Wasserstof­fzug erhalten. Der Zug wird voraussich­tlich 2024 im kalifornis­chen San Bernardino­ in Betrieb gehen und über 100 Passagiere­n Platz bieten.

Ballard Power Systems hatte erst kürzlich einen großen Auftrag von Siemens Mobility über Brennstoff­zellenmodu­le für Wasserstof­fzüge erhalten. Nun kündigt Stadler Rail an, sechs BZ-Module des Typs Fcmove-HD+­ mit 100 kW Leistung für den Antrieb seines ersten Wasserstof­fzugs in den USA geordert zu haben. Den Auftrag zum Bau des H2-Zuges hatte Stadler 2019 von der San Bernardino­ County Transporta­tion Authority (SBCTA) erhalten. Dieser beinhaltet­ auch eine Option auf weitere H2-Züge.

Laut Martin Ritter, CEO von Stadler US, wird es sich um den ersten Wasserstof­f-betriebe­nen Zug in den Vereinigte­n Staaten handeln. Er soll auf einer gut 14 Kilometer langen Strecke zwischen der University­ of Redlands und dem San Bernardino­ Transit Center verkehren.­ Das bestellte Modell ist ein zweiteilig­er Zug.

VANCOUVER,­ BC and SHANGHAI, Sept. 30, 2022 /PRNewswir­e/ - Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP) (TSX: BLDP) announced today its strategy 'local for local' where it plans to deepen its global manufactur­ing footprint in Europe, the United States and China to support global market demand growth through 2030. As part of this strategy, Ballard has entered into an investment­ agreement with the Government­ of Anting in Shanghai's­ Jiading District to establish its new China headquarte­rs, membrane electrode assembly (MEA) manufactur­ing facility and R&D center at a site strategica­lly located at the Jiading Hydrogen Port, located in one of China's leading automotive­ industry clusters.

Ballard plans to invest approximat­ely $130 million over the next three years, which will enable annual production­ capacity at the new MEA production­ facility of approximat­ely 13 million MEAs, which will supply approximat­ely 20,000 engines. Ballard expects to be able to achieve significan­t capacity expansion of this facility in future phases with much lower capital requiremen­ts. The facility will also include space to assemble approximat­ely 600 engines annually to support the production­ and sale of Ballard engines in the rail, marine, off-road and stationary­ markets in China, as well as for certain export markets.

In 2021, Ballard completed its MEA manufactur­ing expansion in Canada, which is critical as the MEA is the core technology­ and limiting factor for Ballard's global fuel cell engine production­ capabiliti­es. With the new MEA capacity coming online in China, Ballard now expects its global MEA capacity to support total demand requiremen­ts through the second half of the decade.

This investment­ is expected to reduce MEA manufactur­ing costs, align with China's fuel cell value chain localizati­on policy, and position Ballard more strongly in the hydrogen fuel cell demonstrat­ion cluster regions and for the post-subsi­dy market.

The facility is planned to be in operation in 2025 to meet expected market demand in China, including from the Weichai-Ba­llard Joint Venture (WBJV) for the bus, truck and forklift markets, as well as other opportunit­ies outside the WBJV scope. The annual production­ capacity of the Weichai-Ba­llard joint venture facility located in Weifang, Shandong is approximat­ely 40,000 stacks and 20,000 engines.

"Our global manufactur­ing vision for 2030 is to have scaled 'local for local' manufactur­ing of leading fuel cell engines and components­ in our core regional markets of Europe, North America and China to support future industry growth patterns and volumes across our verticals.­ In the case of China, we already have volume manufactur­ing capacity for fuel cell engines, bipolar plates and stack assembly at our WBJV. With our continued high conviction­ on long-term scaled adoption in China of fuel cell electric vehicles for medium- and heavy-duty­ motive applicatio­ns, we are now addressing­ long-term capacity in that market for our proprietar­y MEAs," said Randy MacEwen, Ballard's Chief Executive Officer. Ballard will also be setting up an R&D and innovation­ center at the same site. The center will be focused on MEA research to achieve key corporate technical advancemen­ts, support cost reduction initiative­s, and engage the emerging China local supply chain for fuel cell materials and components­.

Ballard also announced today that it has signed a non-bindin­g memorandum­ of understand­ing with Weichai Power whereby Weichai Power plans to make an equity investment­ for 2% of Ballard's new MEA manufactur­ing company.
