Bombardier Inc. (BBD.B.T) said Friday it is part of a group that has received a $4.1 billion contract for a passenger-rail project in Australia.
The Montreal-based transportation giant said its share of the contract is valued at about $2.7 billion.
Bombardier will be responsible for supplying 75 electric multiple-unit trains, a new depot and maintenance for 30 years.
The other consortium members include infrastructure investor and asset manager John Laing (JLP.YY), Japanese trading firm ITOCHU Corp. (8001.TO) and U.K. investment-firm Uberior.
The Queensland government project, called New Generation Rollingstock, will upgrade and expand existing passenger train-fleet services in south-east Queensland.

Wie der Konzern am Mittwoch bekannt gab, lag der Nettogewinn im Berichtszeitraum bei 117 Mio. US-Dollar bzw. 6 US-Cents je Aktie, nach 23 Mio. US-Dollar bzw. 1 US-Cents je Aktie. Ohne die Berücksichtigung von Einmaleffekten lag der Nettogewinn im Berichtszeitraum bei 2 US-Cents je Aktie. Der Konzernumsatz verringerte sich von 3,85 Mrd. US-Dollar auf 3,68 Mrd. US-Dollar.
Die Aktie von Bombardier notierte zuletzt in Toronto bei 3,60 Kanadischen Dollar (CAD).

American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) signed agreements with Bombardier Inc. (BBD.A.T, BBD.B.T, BDRBF) and Embraer S/A (ERJ, EMBR3.BR) to purchase 90 new 76-seat regional jets, a multibillion-dollar order coming just after the airline completed its merger with US Airways Group Inc.
American has firm orders for 30 Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen aircraft, with options for up to 40 more. Bombardier said the firm order contract is valued at about $1.42 billion and could increase to about $3.38 billion if the 40 options are converted to firm orders.
American also has firm orders for 60 Embraer E175 type aircraft with options for up to 90 more. Embraer said the firm orders have a value of $2.5 billion.
Earlier this week, American Airlines Group was created after AMR Corp.'s American Airlines stepped out of bankruptcy and merged with US Airways, creating the world's largest airline by traffic. Under the terms of the stock-swap merger, US Airways shareholders received 28% of the new company's shares, while AMR's creditors and equity interests were slated to receive the rest.
Kenji Hashimoto, American Airlines Group's senior vice president of regional carriers, said the new regional jets will improve economic efficiencies by lowering operating costs and will be an important element in building up the company's regional subsidiary.
American Airlines Group shares closed Wednesday at $25.99.
Embraer shares recently rose 3.8% to 18.36 Brazilian reais.

Der kanadische Flugzeughersteller und Bahntechnikkonzern Bombardier Inc. konnte aufgrund steigender Umsätze im ersten Quartal wieder in die Gewinnzone zurückkehren.
Wie der Konzern am Mittwoch bekannt gab, lag der Nettogewinn im Berichtszeitraum bei 55 Mio. Dollar bzw. 3 Cents je Aktie, nach einem Verlust von 174 Mio. Dollar bzw. 10 Cents je Aktie im Vorjahresquartal. Besonders erfolgreich entwickelte sich dabei das Segment Bahntechnik, in dem vor Sondereffekten und ohne die Berücksichtigung von Zinsen und Steuern ein Gewinn von 44 Mio. Dollar erzielt werden konnte. Dies entspricht einer Steigerung von 159 Mio. Dollar gegenüber dem Vorjahreszeitraum.
Beim Konzernerlös verbuchte Bombardier einen Anstieg von 3,50 Mrd. Dollar auf 3,80 Mrd. Dollar.

Der Sky Whale ist mit 77 Metern etwa gleich lang viel wie eine Boeing 747-8. Die Spannweite ist mit 88 Metern jedoch deutlich größer. Die B747 kommt auf 68,5 Meter, der Airbus A380 auf 79,8 Meter.

Aber bis die Produktion der C-Series jetzt so richtig in Schwung kommt, ist Embraer mit der Überarbeitung der E-Jet Serie auch fertig. Die haben dann vor allem auch die gleichen modernen Triebwerke von P&W mit Getriebefan soweit ich gelesen habe. Und Airbus hat den 320neo dann auch in den Startblöcken.
Zum Glück sind die Canadier nicht nur von den Flugzeugen abhängig...
