Major Mobile Phone Manufacturer Licenses Fonix ...
... Speech Interface for Mobile Phones
SALT LAKE CITY, UT (September 6, 2005) The Fonix Speech Group, an operating division of Fonix® Corporation (OTC BB: FNIX), has entered a licensing agreement to use Fonix DECtalk® text-to-speech (TTS) technology on upcoming mobile phones. Fonix’s agreement with Motorola will make a text-to-speech (TTS) software upgrade for the Motorola i355 mobile phone, designed for visually impaired users. This software enables menu commands, contacts lists, recent calls, and other text on the phone’s screen to be converted to speech. It also provides a speech-based confirmation of information such as caller ID, numbers dialed, battery level, signal strength, and date and time.
Motorola chose Fonix DECtalk, a full-featured TTS solution, due to its small memory footprint and Fonix’s ability to deliver on Motorola’s iDEN mobile phone platforms. According to the agreement, Fonix will receive unit royalties based on the number of phones incorporating Fonix DECtalk.
“Motorola’s iDEN mobile phones enabled with Fonix DECtalk TTS will give users better functionality and a phone that’s easier to use,” says Tim K. Hong, VP of Fonix Mobile Wireless. “Fonix DECtalk is optimized for limited memory devices, like phones, and delivers highly intelligible TTS even under noisy conditions. These two factors make DECtalk an ideal solution for Motorola phones.”
DECtalk, Fonix’s industry-leading TTS technology, offers developers multiple languages, a small memory footprint and full dictionary capabilities. Fonix DECtalk offers improved vocal tract technology, which results in TTS that is both intelligible and easy to listen to, even in noisy environments. Fonix DECtalk provides high-quality speech with accurate, clear pronunciation of single characters, words, phrases and even ethnic-specific proper names.

Und zu Weihnachten wird es nochmals

Fonix Text-to-Speech Solution Featured on Casio's New Electronic Dictionary Models
Thursday February 2, 9:00 am ET
Fifteen new Casio handheld dictionaries now feature five Fonix TTS languages for more multi-national users
SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2006--Fonix Speech, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fonix Corporation (OTCBB:FNIX - News), an integrated communications carrier providing telecommunications services and value-added speech technologies, provides Fonix DECtalk text-to-speech (TTS) to Casio Computer Co., Ltd., a market-leading device manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, for the newest XD series of electronic dictionaries. Casio predicts an initial manufacturing rate for these 15 models of 130,000 units per month. Fonix will receive unit royalties from each device sold.

"Casio again chooses Fonix's text-to-speech based-solution for our new electronic dictionary products," says Fumitsune Murakami, Casio Managing Director. "Integrating Fonix TTS technology, Casio provides convenient, useful electronic devices for people who are looking for ways to improve and expand their language skills."
Fonix DECtalk TTS, embedded on all 15 models of Casio's new electronic dictionaries, "speaks" to the device user, demonstrating how to pronounce vocabulary words as well as speaking example sentences in five different languages: English, Castilian Spanish, German, Italian and French. Multiple models ensure that users find the best device suited to their needs, whether they are students, globetrotting travelers or serious foreign language learners.
"The TTS for the Fonix Language Learning Solution has been specifically designed to help non-native English speakers learn how to speak and pronounce words more clearly," says Walt Nawrocki, Senior VP and GM, Fonix Speech. "By featuring multiple languages, these new models significantly expand Casio's market dominance and help Fonix secure the number one TTS solution in the handheld dictionary space in Japan."
Casio continues to hold the number one(a) volume share of the electronic dictionary market in Japan (January to December 2005) according to GfK Marketing Services Japan Ltd., an independent market researcher. In addition to business use, electronic dictionaries seem to be most popular with students for language study in schools and universities.
(a) According to the GfK Japan's sell-through data collected at over 3000 home appliance stores.
