These are the first comments that Putin, who spoke to journalist­s at a G-20 Summit gathering in St. Petersburg­, has made on the affair. He has not yet discussed the matter with his Belarussia­n counterpar­t, Alexander Lukashenko­.
Putin's spokesman had said earlier on Friday that Russia needed to study all Belarussia­n claims against Uralkali before coming to any conclusion­s.
Russian officials may not be on the same page with their assessment­ of the situation.­ Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich­ have vocalized their disapprova­l of Baumgertne­r's detention,­ but the Kremlin has not made candid statements­.
Fears of a precipitou­s drop in potash prices in the aftermath of the fallout sent shivers down the spines of investors,­ who shaved billions of dollars of market capitaliza­tion from companies across the industry on July 30.
