Newton, Mass. (March 21, 2007) Pro-Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Amex:PRW), a developer of novel
carbohydrate compounds, today announced it has entered into definitive agreements with six of the
seven investors holding the Company's 7% Convertible Debentures to exchange their Debentures for
shares of the Company's common stock. Under the terms of the agreements, investors agree to
exchange approximately $3.9 million of the $4.4 million in outstanding principal and interest, and any
other amounts due under its Debenture, for shares of the Company's common stock priced at $0.75
per share, which will result in the issuance of approximately 5.2 million shares.

Fazit: Die Studie lässt alle Möglichkeiten offen, sagt aber noch nicht zwingend etwas aus. Frage dazu: Ist die Reduktion der Ekzeme auf das Medikament zurückzuführen oder wäre die Heilung auch so eingetreten (ohne Behandlung). ?
Der Satz " All three patients had failed a number of systemic therapies and would be classified as refractory,..." lässt darauf schließen, dass die Beschwerden chronisch waren. Das wäre ein Indiz für die Wirksamkeit von GR-MD-02.
Plazebowirkung? Das Unternehmen selbst sagt hierzu:
"We are pleased by the results of this study demonstrating the safety and clinically significant effect in patients with severe atopic dermatitis, although because of the potential of a placebo effect in this disease, confirmation of the magnitude of the effect will require placebo-controlled trials."

Wir fanden keinen signifikanten Unterschied in ΔHVPG zwischen der 2 mg / kg Belapektin-Gruppe und der Placebo-Gruppe (-0,28 mmHG gegenüber 0,10 mmHG, P = 1,0) oder zwischen der 8 mg / kg Belapektin-Gruppe und der Placebo-Gruppe (-0,25 mmHG gegenüber 0,10 mmHG, P = 1,0 ). Belapektin hatte keinen signifikanten Einfluss auf den Aktivitätsscore für Fibrose oder nichtalkoholische Fettlebererkrankungen, und die Leberergebnisse unterschieden sich nicht signifikant zwischen den Gruppen. In einer Analyse einer Untergruppe von Patienten ohne Ösophagusvarizen zu Studienbeginn (n = 81) wurde 2 mg / kg Belapektin mit einer Verringerung des HVPG nach 52 Wochen im Vergleich zum Studienbeginn ( P = 0,02) und einer verringerten Entwicklung neuer Varizen in Verbindung gebracht ( P = 0,03). Belapektin (2 mg / kg) wurde gut vertragen und erzeugte keine Sicherheitssignale.
Schlussfolgerungen
In einer Phase-2b-Studie mit 162 Patienten mit NASH, Zirrhose und portaler Hypertonie war eine zweiwöchentliche Infusion von Belapektin nach einem Jahr sicher, jedoch nicht mit einer signifikanten Reduktion von HVPG oder Fibrose im Vergleich zu Placebo verbunden. In einer Subgruppenanalyse von Patienten ohne Ösophagusvarizen reduzierten 2 mg / kg Belapektin jedoch HVPG und die Entwicklung von Varizen.
