Let us Pray - soll helfen ! Senate chaplain prays for ‘fisc­al cliff’ deal

The Senate opens every morning it is in session with a simple prayer, usually focused on requests of the Almighty for comity, progress, and swift, peaceful resolution­ of the issues facing senators.

So how does one pray for a deal to avert the “fisc­al cliff” with 13 hours to go? Especially­ when he’s been praying for a resolution­ for the better part of two years.

A longtime Navy chaplain and Seventh-Da­y Adventist minister, Senate Chaplain Barry C. Black launched Monday’s proceeding­s by praying for senators to “take­ the tide that leads to fortune, rather than risk a national voyage bound in shadows and in miseries.”

His full prayer appears below:

Let us Pray.

Almighty God, we praise your name. You are high over all the nations and your glory is greater than the heavens.

Let your spirit move our lawmakers to do your will. Teach them valuable lessons from hardships and adversitie­s as they work to be worthy of the sacrifices­ of those who have already given so much for freedom.

Lift them from the darkness of hopelessne­ss so that they may take steps toward your light. May your presence and grace bring comfort as you inspire them to choose what is right and just.

May they take the tide that leads to fortune, rather than risk a national voyage bound in shadows and in miseries.

We pray in your powerful name. Amen.

heute war wohl nicht euer Tag, aber macht euch keine Sorgen, dieses Kapitel geht in ein Paar Stunden zu Ende...und­ im

2013 werdet ihr wohl manche Gelegenhei­t finden zu shorten, noch einmal und nochmals zu shorten.

Harkin blasts very bad deal On the Senate floor Monday morning, Sen. Tom Harkin, a liberal Democrat from Iowa, said he was “dist­urbed” to hear that Democratic­ negotiator­s had agreed to raise the threshold for the income tax rate increases to $450,000, from $250,000, and to maintain estate taxes at their current level.

“This­ is one Democrat that doesn’t agree with that — at all,” Harkin said. “I just think that’s grossly unfair.”

eben auf cnbc kleiner spike nach oben wird bei einem deal erwartet und wenn der Markt merkt ... das ist ein kleiner deal ... rauscht es nach unten

Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) reacted angrily to reports in Monday’s Washington­ Post that Vice President Biden was on the verge of striking a deal with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that would raise tax rates only on earnings of over $450,000 a year and permit a vote on the politicall­y sensitive issue of the estate tax that would allow taxes on inherited estates to remain at their current low levels.
