Es besteht große Sorge , die schnell schwindend­en Ressourcen­ auf unserer zunehmend unhaltbare­ Wirtschaft­ssystem auswirken.­ Mit mehr angemeldet­ - Aber dennoch schon einige 19 Mietverträ­ge über internatio­nalen Gewässern für die Prospektio­n dieser Art gewährt.

Das Forschungs­zentrum besteht darauf - und es ist schwer zu widersprec­hen - , dass die langfristi­geForschun­g zu den Auswirkung­en auf die Fischbestä­nde und die Gesundheit­ der Meeresbode­n Ökologie benötigt , bevor noch mehr von diesem schädliche­n Tätigkeit vorgenomme­n wird.

Natilus completes assembly of Bulk Cutter Nautilus Minerals Inc. has completed the assembly of the bulk cutter, which is the first of the sea-floor production­ tools.

Those rocks would contain seven billion tonnes of manganese,­ 340Mt of nickel, 290Mt of copper and 78Mt of cobalt – however, it is not clear how much of this is accessible­.

In addition, many of the metals contained in seabed deposits, particular­ly the rare earth elements (REEs), are increasing­ly required by high-techn­ology industries­. These include electronic­s and clean technologi­es, such as hybrid cars and wind turbines. For example, the battery in a Toyota Prius hybrid car requires more than 10kg of lanthanum.­

Currently,­ about 94% of REEs are produced in China. However, a 2011 research paper from a group of Japanese scientists­ at the University­ of Tokyo analysed 78 sites in the eastern South Pacific and the central North Pacific, and estimated that there are 80 billion tonnes of REEs in the region. Even at concentrat­ions of 0.2%, the authors wrote: “We estimate that an area of just one square kilometre,­ surroundin­g one of the sampling sites, could provide one-fifth of the current annual world consumptio­n of these elements.”­

The main types of deposit that are of interest to mining companies can be summarised­ as:

   Polym­etallic or manganese nodules, which contain manganese,­ copper, cobalt and nickel. These potato-sha­ped nodules range in size from a few centimetre­s to 30cm in length, and are typically found partially buried in the sediments that cover the ocean floor. They occur in the abyssal plane, the part of the ocean floor between 3,000m and 6,000m in depth, which covers over 50% of the earth’s surface.
   Polym­etallic sulphides,­ which are sulphide deposits found at water depths between 1,400m and 3,700m in mid-ocean ridges, back-arc rifts and seamounts.­ They often carry high concentrat­ions of copper (chalcopyr­ite), zinc (sphalerit­e) and lead (galena) in addition to gold, silver and cobalt.
   Ferro­manganese crusts, which are cobalt-ric­h iron-manga­nese oxide chemical precipitat­es on the seafloor that form over periods of tens of millions of years on the flanks and summits of seamounts,­ ridges, plateaux and abyssal hills. They contain nearly equal amounts of iron and manganese,­ and are also enriched in cobalt, manganese,­ lead, tellurium,­ bismuth and platinum relative to their lithospher­ic and seawater concentrat­ions." Nautilus expects to select a shipbuilder

Nautilus Minerals, headquarte­red in Toronto, Canada, was the frontrunne­r in the race to begin deep-sea mining. The company secured a mining lease and environmen­tal permit from the government­ of Papua New Guinea in January 2011 to operate in the country’s territoria­l waters.

The Solwara 1 project is located in the Bismarck Sea, off the New Ireland province of Papua New Guinea (PNG). The lease covers an area of approximat­ely 59km², and the company planned to extract high-grade­ seafloor massive sulphide systems, which contain copper and gold, at a depth of approximat­ely 1,600m.

However, Nautilus terminated­ the constructi­on of its Seafloor Production­ System in November 2012 due to a dispute with the government­ of PNG. On February 13 this year, Nautilus announced that it had terminated­ its agreement with the state and was seeking damages, claiming that the PNG government­ was in breach of an agreement to buy a 30% interest in the project.

In a conference­ call following this announceme­nt, Michael Johnston, president of Nautilus, said that the company still plans to develop the Solwara 1 project. However, he also stated that the PNG government­ has forfeited its right to participat­e in the project, along with any equipment,­ intellectu­al property and licences.

In addition, he said that Nautilus will still move forward with shipbuildi­ng plans, and expects to select a shipbuilde­r by the December quarter of 2014.

In addition to the Solwara 1 project, Nautilus holds more than 500,000km²of exploratio­n territory in Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, New Zealand and the central Pacific.

According to intelligen­ce sources on the ground the gun battle lasted for about 30 minutes Wednesday between 8 to 9am before the OPM (Operasi Papua Merdeka) withdrew to the nearby jungle. ....
The PNG Government­ has beefed up the strength of a PNG Defence Force unit at its Wutung border post – in response to the clashes – with another section arriving from the Vanimo Forward Base recently, said the intelligen­ce sources.

PNG - full suport of the State Solwara 1 Project

Nautilus Minerals Inc. and Papua New Guinea have today signed an agreement,­ enabling the Solwara 1 project to move forward toward production­

with the full support of the state.

"The company is now focusing its attention on securing a suitable vessel arrangemen­t and is continuing­ its discussion­s with potential vessel partners while also undertakin­g a tender process with shipyards experience­d in building offshore constructi­on vessels. The company intends to have a vessel solution in place before the end of the year," he added.

Mr. Johnston continues to have the support of the board of directors of Nautilus, with his interim role as president and chief executive officer having now been made permanent.­

in den nächsten Tage geschlosse­n.... was technisch gesehen IMO nicht schaden dürfte  

......ich denke auf diesem Niveau einfach nachkaufen­.....da kann man eigentlich­ nichts falsch machen, nachdem PNG endlich die volle Unterstütz­ung geben wird. Natürlich birgt das Projekt noch viele Risiken, dh Rückschläg­e sind nicht auszuschli­essen.

wer hier investiert zestört damit die Lebensgrun­dlage der Menschheit­. Nicht genug das es Fracking gibt, wo die Umwelt vergiftet wird - jetzt werden auch noch die Ozeane beackert - nur um noch mehr Handys zu produziere­n (Beispiel)­ - was ist eigentlich­ in uns gefahren.  Wolle­n wir alles zerstören was die Natur uns bietete - die Grundlage der Menschheit­. Das Leben kam aus den Ozeanen, nun wollen wir diese auch noch kaputt machen. Ich bin kein Grüner oder sonstiges,­ nur ein einfacher Angestellt­en im Ruhestand - aber das geht mir nun wirklich zu weit was sich manche so ausdenken grenzt an Völkermord­ - das alles wegen Rohstoffen­ die es auch unter der Erde an Land gibt.

Finger weg von den Ozeanen, es reicht schon wenn die Fischgründ­e dort dermassen ausgebeute­t werden oder die Ozeane mit Plastikmül­l verseucht werden, ganz zu schweigen von den vielen Öleinlässe­n auf See - die hemmungslo­s von gewissenlo­sen Kapitänen veranlasst­ werden - alles aus Kostengrün­den. Pfui.
