Die news bzgl. der Verarbeitung von Gold- & Silber in der Precious Metalls Raffinerie - einen Teil von Formation's 'Big Creek Hydrometallurgical Complex' - wird sich mittelfr. positiv auf den Cash Flow des Unternehmens auswirken. Die harten news hinsichtlich der relevanten Verarbeitungsaufnahme ist aber etw. dünn, da nur wenig Details hinsichtlich des Starts der operativen Verarbeitungstätigkeiten gegeben werden. Nach den news wurde letzte Woche das erste Material von der Crescent Mine (ca ~ 5km von der Raffinerie entfernt) angeliefert, welches jetzt verarbeitet werden soll. Demnach werden wir auch dbzgl. detaillierte Fakten erst die nächsten Wochen/Monate sehen.
De facto profitiert Formation bis dato erstmal von einer Aufnahme in ein offizielles Register (der COMEX) für qualitative PM-Verarbeiter, und erweitert damit nicht nur den Rahmen der potentiellen Interessenten, sondern verschafft sich dadurch auch eine Art Gütesiegel, das in Zukunft immer wichtiger werden wird.

Formation Begins Processing Silver & Gold Concentrates
SUNSHINE Silver Now Good Delivery on COMEX
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 2, 2012) - Formation Metals Inc. ("Formation" or the "Company") (TSX:FCO) announces today that it has received notice that it has been placed on the Approved Refiners and Brands official list of the Commodity Exchange Inc. (COMEX). Effective April 30, 2012 the "SUNSHINE" silver brand will be deliverable against the Exchange's Silver futures contract.
Quality silver has been consistently produced for at least five years at the Company's Sunshine Precious Metals Refinery which is one of the criteria for the listing. The Refinery is part of the Company's Big Creek hydrometallurgical complex, located in the Coeur d'Alene mining district in the Silver Valley area of northern Idaho. COMEX is a division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, a commodity futures exchange.
"The COMEX listing will attract a wider range of customers," stated Mari-Ann Green, CEO of Formation Metals Inc. "In anticipation of the listing, we have also been preparing the hydromet plant to accept silver/copper and gold concentrates. As we gear up and have both facilities in operation the hydromet plant will serve to provide additional feed for the refinery. We are expecting a significant positive impact on revenue generation."
The Sunshine Silver Refinery refines silver and gold doré, high grade silver residues and other high content silver materials into high quality silver and gold bullion for customers. This provides the Company with a steady positive operating margin. Over the past few years however, there have been significant changes to refining and concentrate processing capabilities around the world. Formation therefore, has received numerous requests from local mines and mines across North and South America to process their concentrate. Interestingly, the Big Creek hydrometallurgical plant type of concentrate processing is not presently available in the United States, and for certain types of concentrates not available in the western hemisphere. In addition, the hydrometallurgical plant can operate as a low emission, zero liquid discharge facility and can process materials that traditional smelters find difficult or impossible to process under modern strict environmental standards.
After review of the material specifications and analysis of the hydrometallurgical plant's capability, the Company's technical staff and market consultants concluded that the operating margin at the complex could be greatly improved by processing copper/silver and gold concentrates in addition to refining doré and other materials. It was also determined that this could be accomplished with minimal capital costs.
Mr. Michael Irish, General Manager of Formation Metals U.S., commented, "The plant has processed locally sourced concentrates under previous ownership with great success at considerably lower silver prices than today's. Since that time, there have been significant upgrades, inspections and modifications made, including a gold concentrate treatment system. We will be excited to once again see this facility process concentrate materials. The facility has been shown to be a value added alternative to other process options for our customers." Mr. Irish concluded, "This is a great opportunity to work with our neighboring mines and mines from around the world."
Earlier in the year, the Company entered into an agreement to process silver concentrates from the Crescent Mine located three miles from the Refinery. The first delivery of concentrate from the Crescent Mine for pilot runs was delivered last week. In addition, gold concentrate is being delivered weekly for processing, and other contracts are currently being negotiated. Research and testing of various concentrate materials is ongoing and the Company expects to process an increasing variety of concentrates with a wider range of acceptable impurities in the future.

Kobalt wird in vielfältigen High-Tech-Geräten gebraucht. Handys, Laptops, Elektroautos und Flugzeugturbinen, um nur einige zu nennen. In 2011 betrug das weltweite Angebot an raffiniertem Kobalt 82.247 Tonnen, damit lag es rund 4 Prozent über der Vorjahresproduktion von 79.262 Tonnen. Da das meiste Kobalt als Beiprodukt bei der Nickel- und Kupfer-Förderung gewonnen wird, steigt die Produktion, wenn diese beiden Metalle boomen..

Für Spezialanwendungen braucht die Welt Kobalt
Als Beiprodukt von Nickel und Kupfer wird Kobalt gewonnen. Derzeit sind Vorkommen von rund 15 Millionen Tonnen weltweit bekannt. Das Cobalt Development Institute (CDI) geht von einer Verdopplung des Verbrauches bis 2014 auf 120.000 Tonnen pro Jahr aus. Dieser Rohstoff besitzt übrigens eine Recyclingrate von über 50 Prozent, während zum Beispiel seltene Erden eine Recyclingrate von unter 1 Prozent haben..

Researchers in Japan Develop Cobalt Alloy to Fire Coal Power Plants

Formation Metals Begins Community Initiative with Idaho Conservation League
Formation Metals Inc.(TSX:FCO) announced that it has entered into a cooperative effort with conservationists and local communities and will contribute $150,000 to enhance natural resources in Lemhi County, Idaho. Richtige Aufstellung, denke aber dass man einige Zahlen aus den früheren Berechnungen mit etw. Vorsicht betrachten sollte. Es hat sich in vielen Bereichen Einiges geändert, so sind z.B. die Kosten für die Minenarbeiter während der letzten Jahre gestiegen. Weiter sind die überschlagenen Zahlen idF eher für die prognostizierte Berechnung des Cash Flows hilfreich. Teile der Erlöse fließen ja als benötigte Invesitionen sofort wieder in das Projekt, zudem kommen Abgaben in Form von Steuern etc. ...
Bin auf die nächsten Updates auch bzgl. der Projekte mit der Idaho Conservation League gespannt. Die intensive Kooperation mit den lokalen Bevölkerungsgruppen, dieser einflussreichen Institution und die Wertlegung auf nachhaltiges Mining inkl. der Anwendung von hohen Umweltstandards, wird sich langfristig auszahlen.

Reuters Africa reported that Zambia’s cobalt output dropped from 4,371 tonnes in 2012 to 3,036 tonnes in the first half of 2012.
As quoted in the market news:
"Cobalt production dropped to 3,036 tonnes in the six month period this year from 4,371 tonnes in 2011 and exports fell to 3,534 tonnes from 4,410 tonnes."

Der Aktienkurs befindet sich weiter in einer Bodenbildungsphase. Seit Wochen gibt es kaum Impulse am kanadischen Börsenplatz, das Volumen ist zuletzt auf ein Jahrestief gefallen. Bei all den günstigen Bewertungen, z.B. wird Formation gegenwärtig unter dem Wert des Kassenbestands bewertet, muss man wohl weiter auf neue Entwicklungen und Fortschritte warten. Aufgrund der schwächelnden Weltwirtschaft inkl. der "Abkühlung" in China und den schlechter werdenen Aussichten, blieben auch die Preise für das Industriemetall Kobalt in den letzten Monaten unter Druck. Die niedrigen Kobaltpreise wirken sich natürlich alles andere als positiv auf die Finanzierungschancen von Formation Metals aus. Jedoch werden die Ressourcen im Boden langfristig sicher nicht weniger wert, und das Deposit gehört zu den wichtigsten Lagerstätten in Amerika..
