Graphene nanoplatelets, led by composites and energy storage applications, will
drive growth but graphene films will mostly remain in the lab, says Lux Research

BOSTON--(Business Wire)-- Graphene, touted as the next wunderkind material because of its extraordinary properties, will grow to a $126 million market in 2020, from its $9 million base
in 2012, according to Lux Research. While an impressive debut for a new material, this growth is less than some of the hype may suggest..

Billion Dollar Grant Launches Global Graphene Race Im letzten Absatz dieses Artikels über Nokia geht es um FMS und Grafoid:

+
Focus Graphite (TSX.V: FMS; OTCQX: FCSMF) is working on a method to bring graphene to the market through its partner Grafoid Inc in which it has a 40% stake. Grafoid’s sole purpose is to develop a proprietary method of producing graphene more economically. Grafoid is close to a manufacturing approach that avoids oxidation of the material, which reduces its conductivity. Grafoid is quite confident that it has an economically viable graphene production process ready. From Gary Economo, President and CEO Grafoid Inc. “The European Community’s grant to Nokia indicates the global race is on in earnest for graphene’s use in consumer electronics. As an emerging source of high-energy graphene for industrial-scale applications, we see Grafoid, our graphene investment and application development company as being well-positioned to enter that race in the very near future.”

# 108

10 Reasons to Own Focus Graphite:

1. Our company holds two properties containing strategically and economically important minerals
– graphite and neodymium – needed for green initiatives, and; for European and U.S. national and
industrial security.
2. Economics: Our Lac Knife graphite deposit holds the highest concentration of flake graphite in the
world at 16%. And our positive Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA, Oct ‘12) outlined robust economics:
mine life of 20 years, $3.7 billion total net revenue, $926 million pre-tax undiscounted cash
flow, a 32% pre-tax IRR with a $246 million pre-tax NPV at a 10% discount rate. Lac Knife is anticipated
to go in production in 2014
3. Supply conditions favor Focus Graphite. China controls the global market with over 70% of worldwide
graphite production and with the United States producing no graphite, security of supply is critical.
4. Market applications favour the company. Future demand will be driven by green technology initiatives
in the Carbon Age - lithium batteries, electronics - and advanced technology-grade graphite applications
and products.
5. The numbers tell the story. Current world production of graphite is approximately 1.2mt of which 40% is
flake graphite. To meet future estimated demand, some 25 new mines would be required by 2020.
6. Strategic implications will dictate future development. The U.S. and Europe are vulnerable to
graphite and neodymium shortages. Both the E.U. and the U.S. Government have designated graphite
as a critical mineral.
7. The Kwyjibo REE property has a strategic partner in the Government of Quebec through SOQUEM,
a wholly–owned subsidiary of Investissement Quebec which is responsible for fostering economic
development and job creation in Quebec.
8. The discovery of graphene from graphite will change the way we work, live and play in the future. At
one atom thick, it is the strongest material known to science. It conducts electricity better than copper,
is transparent, can be shaped to suit any form and can be modified to suit different
industrial end-uses.
9. Graphene - the “new silicon” - provides limitless commercial opportunities through Focus Graphite’s
investment in Grafoid Inc. as a 40% partner. Grafoid invests in, manages, and co-develops application
solutions from economically scalable graphene.
10. Focus Graphite is positioned perfectly for long-term growth with the right resources, the right management
and the right strategic partners as evidenced in its JV with Hydro-Quebec as technology partner
in graphite purification and anode production.

Danke schon mal!

Cheers - HAL

The Global Destination for Graphite Investors

Posted on February 22, 2013  by Alessandro Bruno

Graphite investors have their pick in Quebec; more interestingly, the proximity of the properties and the availability of expertise and perhaps the best mining regulatory environment in the world, make the province  ideal. Quebec is mining friendly; graphite projects in Quebec are close to very good roads and infrastructure; the projects feature the highest grades facilitating the purification process to address the current sources of demand; finally, the companies are managed by world experts in the area of mineral graphite and all operating close to Timcal one of the sole suppliers of natural graphite in the world. The key concept is vicinity. Everything is ‘close’; one might coin the term ‘close-ology’ or “vicinology” for those who like Latin to describe the serendipitous combination of factors that are turning Quebec into the premiere graphite destination. This ‘closeology’ also has the potential to spur a number of mergers and acquisitions as the various properties run into each other geographically and geologically..

# 112, u.a. über Focus

"..Focus Graphite made a significant graphite discovery 10 kilometres north of the Lac Gueret graphite deposit, hosting NI 43-101. Mason, Focus, Berkwood and a others such as Galaxy Graphite Corp (‘Galaxy’, TSXV: GXY) – operating the Buckingham Graphite project not far from Lac Gueret, in the same Grenville geological province – may soon join Timcal, which produces up to 25,000 tons of graphite at Lac-des-Iles in operation since 1989. As Benoit Gascon of Mason Graphite has suggested, there has been no increase in graphite supply since 1990; however, demand is rising as is the number of technological applications demanding high quality graphite.

The Province of Quebec itself will be generating a substantial portion of that demand. Hydro-Quebec has signed an agreement with Focus to use purified graphite (at battery grades: 99% +) to make anodes; Grafoid (40% owned by Focus), is developing a commercial graphene production process and its headquarters are located in nearby Ottawa. And then there are other Quebec based specialty battery manufacturers:  Sud-Chemie (taken over by Clariant) has 100% ownership of Quebec’s Phostech Lithium and very recently launched one of the world’s premier facilities to produce carbon coated lithium iron phosphate for electric and hybrid vehicle batteries and stationary storage. Hydro Quebec is also on the cutting edge of fast battery charging systems that will help improve the viability and demand for electric vehicles. And then there are the Lithium miners and the list goes on…."
